Not at all. I share your skepticism. His comment was weaselish and cynical. He was just trying to get some of the O'man's political glow to rub off on him. Until the NEP is abolished, baby steps are all that can be hoped for.

Don't mind my skepticism...but let us take baby steps. If there are still so much protest for a Chinese (well qualified) to head a state organization...I won't hold my breath for that to happen anytime soon.

The general view on forums, blogs and comments posted shows that we are ready to put the Opposition in power. Things have been going well for the 5 states that are currently being ruled by the Opposition (well, technically they are no longer the Opposition in those states). However, the only concern that people have is the manner they go about taking over the current government. Would it be ethically right for an MP to cross over to the Opposition even though he was elected as a member of the ruling alliance? What will then stop future elected MPs from crossing over from one party to another? This will probably cause more harm than good.

The best way and the right thing to do is for the Prime Minister to dissolve Parliament and to hold snap elections to see if the current government still has the mandate to rule. This is unlikely to happen. So the next best thing is to wait for the next General Election in 4 years time.

Interesting article. So what is the attitude of progressive Malaysians towards the Opposition now? Is it the case that they're happy they finally have an Opposition, but not ready to put them into power? How have they performed as an Opposition? What's the deal with Anwar - he was telling everyone he would be in power by mid-September but now Najib looks like he's strenghtened his position?
